TRC to make its own submission on North South Transport Corridor

Toowoomba Region Councillors unanimously resolved this week for Council to make its own submission to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) on the proposed Toowoomba North-South Transport Corridor.

Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald said TRC’s submission would acknowledge the growing need for an additional North-South Road for the Toowoomba Region while reaffirming Council’s desire to see minimal disruption to residents should the State choose to proceed with the project.

“Council’s role in the Toowoomba North-South Transport Corridor is ensuring the State Government delivers a project that achieves the best possible outcome for residents and the region.

“That involves advocating to the State Government around minimal disruption to residents, protection of the environment and areas of cultural significance and mitigating impacts to the local road network.

“Councillors also resolved to make representations to DTMR on the importance of ongoing consultation around the project.”

“Council would like to see DTMR engage in ongoing consultation with Council and the community to address concerns. While feedback closes on September 8, Council hopes to see information sharing and conversations with the community by DTMR long passed that date.”

“Council encourages residents to lodge submissions by DTMR’s deadline of September 8,” Mayor McDonald said.

“It is important to note that DTMR will be the decision maker in the final outcome. However, Council will advocate for the interests of Toowoomba Region residents during the assessment and consultation process,” Mayor McDonald said.
