Two people have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a shooting in Lake Macquarie earlier this year.
About 4.05am on Thursday 18 May 2023, emergency services were called to a home on Flame Street, Gateshead, after reports shots had been fired, injuring a man.
Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended with NSW Ambulance paramedics and found a 41-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his leg.
Police have been told the man and his family were asleep at the home when they were woken by two loud noises. He was injured after a projectile entered the front window.
The man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
A crime scene was established with an investigation into the shooting led by Lake Macquarie Detectives.
Following inquiries, detectives, with assistance from specialist police, executed a search warrant at a home on the Pacific Highway at Doyalson North about 8.45am yesterday (Monday 19 June 2023).
During the search, police seized a Mitsubishi Magna, clothing, and electronic devices relevant to the investigation, which will undergo further examination.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Wyong Police Station.
Later the same morning, a 45-year-old woman was arrested at Toronto Police Station.
The man and woman were charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempt special aggravated break, enter and commit serious indicatable offence inflict grievous bodily harm.
The pair were refused bail, with the woman appearing before Toronto Local Court yesterday and the man due to appear before Wyong Local Court today (Tuesday 20 June 2023).
Investigations are ongoing.
