Two drivers test positive for drug-driving with child in vehicle, NSW

Two men have allegedly tested positive to driving under the influence of drugs with children in the car following a proactive traffic operation near Sydney’s CBD.

Between 10am and 6.30pm yesterday (Monday 22 July 2019), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command conducted Operation Guardian – a high-visibility traffic operation, targeting roads and areas known for illegal and risky driving behaviours.

During the operation, officers were patrolling Potts Point, Darlinghurst, Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo, and Rushcutters Bay.

A total of 271 roadside breath tests and 150 random drug tests were conducted; of which, seven of the drug tests allegedly returned a positive result.

These include a 40-year-old man stopped in Darlinghurst, who allegedly tested positive to cocaine with a four-year-old girl in the vehicle at the time.

Another man, aged 32, was stopped outside Kings Cross Railway Station and allegedly tested positive to driving while under the influence of cocaine with three-year-old boy in the car.

The men were both issued 24-hour driving prohibition notices and the samples were sent for further testing.

Officers also issued 32 traffic infringement notices for speeding, mobile phone, licence and registration offences, and one defect notice was issued.

Further high-visibility operations are expected to be conducted throughout the Sydney area in the coming months.
