Two high range drink drivers detected, South Australia

Despite the current high profile road safety campaign, Operation High Impact Fatal Five, police still detected two high range drink drivers this afternoon.

About 3.45pm on Saturday 10 August, staff at a northern suburbs bottle shop contacted police with concerns that a patron was drink driving. Road Policing Section officers went to a Salisbury Heights home address where they intercepted the driver.

The 35-year-old woman recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.269 – more than five times the legal blood alcohol limit.

She was reported for drink driving, issued with a 12 month instant loss of licence and her car was impounded for 28 days.

Road Policing Section officers responded to reports of a single vehicle crash at Hillsdale Street, Prospect about 4.20pm today after a car hit a tree.

The driver, a 43-year-old Cowandilla man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.246. He was reported for drink driving and lost his licence on the spot for 12 months. His car was not impounded due to accident damage.

Both drivers will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Operation High Impact F5, got underway yesterday, targeting people committing offences against the Fatal Five which include drink or drug driving, speeding, distraction offences, seatbelts and dangerous road users, with the aim of stopping people being killed on our road through poor choices.
