Two men charged following Melton South aggravated burglary

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged two overnight men following an aggravated burglary with shots fired at an address in Melton South last month.

With assistance from the Special Operations Group and Mill Park Serious Crime Team, five search warrants were executed early Tuesday morning at addresses in Grovedale, Ocean Grove, Newcomb, Norlane and Geelong West.

A 21-year-old Newcomb man was charged with aggravated home invasion, aggravated burglary, conduct endangering life, prohibited person possess firearm, theft of motor vehicle, use firearm in contravention of Firearm Prohibition Order and breach conditions of bail.

He was remanded overnight to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court today.

A 22-year-old Geelong West man was charged with possess cannabis.

He was bailed to front Geelong Magistrates’ Court on 15 August.

A 21-year-old Newcomb woman was interviewed and released pending further enquiries.

During the searches, police subsequently seized a white Mazda CX-5, a number of knives, what appears to be cannabis and a quantity of white powder.

The charges follow an incident about 4am on Monday, 24 April, where police have been told four men forced entry into a Fraser Street premises.

Three people inside the property at the time, a man and two women, were assaulted.

A 31-year-old man was conveyed to hospital to be treated for a significant knife wound to his face.

A 44-year-old woman and a 67-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

Police believe the incident was targeted.

The investigation remains ongoing.
