Two men in custody after New Norfolk incident

A 32 year old man and a 42 year old man are in custody and police have recovered two stolen firearms following an incident near New Norfolk this morning.

Police responded to a report of a break-in at a New Norfolk property about 8.30am today.

As a result of quick attendance, police were able to identify a vehicle related to the matter and attempted to intercept the vehicle on Boyer Road heading towards Bridgewater.

The vehicle subsequently evaded police, and as a result police pursued the vehicle on the Brooker Highway towards the Granton area.

Police terminated the pursuit shortly afterwards in the interests of public safety.

Police located the vehicle in the Claremont area and undertook a search, with the two men being taken into custody without incident a short time later in the Claremont foreshore area.

No one was injured during the incident.

Police recovered two firearms which had allegedly been stolen from the New Norfolk property at the scene.

Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby thanked the members of the public for their patience and understanding while police responded to the incident.

“The positive result can be attributed to the good police work between the various police divisions involved, with assistance from members of the community,” Detective Inspector Morrisby said.
