Two men rescued after boat capsizes near Jervis Bay, NSW

Two men have been rescued after spending about 90 minutes in the water in the Shoalhaven region.

About 5.00pm this afternoon (Thursday 10 September 2020), emergency services were called to waters between Bowan Island and Point Perpendicular near Jervis Bay, following reports a boat had capsized.

Police were told two men – both aged 31 – had been fishing when their boat capsized when a large wave hit their vessel, throwing them into the water.

The men remained in the water and managed to contact 000 using a mobile phone.

Officers from South Coast Police District, assisted by Marine Rescue and the Toll ambulance helicopter attended and retrieved the men from the water around 6.40pm.

They were both treated for mild hypothermia and some cuts and abrasions, before being taken to Shoalhaven Hospital.

The boat has not been located and police believe it has possibly sunk.

Neither man was wearing a life jacket when rescued.

Marine Rescue will conduct a search of waters tomorrow to see if the boat can be salvaged.
