Two officers assaulted while arresting man on outstanding warrant – Cabramatta

Two police officers have been assaulted while arresting a man on an outstanding warrant in Sydney’s southwest this morning.

Around 4am (Saturday 12 August 2023), officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command, accompanied by a student police officer, attended a licensed venue on the Hume Highway in Cabramatta, as part of an ongoing investigation.

Police identified a 25-year-old man at the venue wanted on an outstanding warrant for a domestic violence offence.

The man allegedly attempted to flee the scene; however, he was placed under arrest, at which time he allegedly assaulted the officers.

Further police attended the scene and assisted in affecting the man’s arrest.

A 26-year-old constable was conveyed to Liverpool hospital, where he received treatment for a concussion and a laceration to his head, before later being discharged.

A 23-year-old constable sustained bruising to the face and an injury to his back. He did not require hospitalisation.

The man was taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The outstanding warrant for the domestic violence offence was also executed.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 12 August 2023).
