Two youths charged with property offences – Operation Mongoose

Two teenagers will face court next month, charged with vehicle thefts in West Tamworth.

In November 2022, Operation Mongoose recommenced to combat property offences, including vehicle thefts and break and enter offences across areas covered by Oxley Police District.

As an outcome of the operation, two boys will face court next month.

About 3am on Wednesday (20 September 2023), police were called to an address on Porter Street, Tamworth, following reports of a vehicle had been stolen.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended the scene and spoke to the 54-year-old woman.

Police were told that she woke up around 3am to find vehicle had been stolen.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into this incident has commenced.

Following inquiries, the 16-year-old boy was arrested in West Tamworth around 11.15pm on Friday (22 September 2023).

He was taken to Tamworth Police station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at children’s court on Tuesday 3 October 2023.

In a separate incident, just after 3.50am on Friday (22 September 2023), officers attached to the Oxley Police District were patrolling areas around West Tamworth, before they located an abandoned black Holden hatchback on Kenny Drive, West Tamworth.

Checks revealed the vehicle was reported stolen and used in alleged shoplifting offences at number of service stations in Moree and Narrabri areas earlier this month.

Following extensive inquiries, a 14-year-old boy was arrested in Tamworth, about 10am on Friday (22 September 2023).

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.

He was refused bail to appear at children’s court on Tuesday 17 October 2023.
