The UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-recurrence, Fabian Salvioli, will conduct an official visit to Finland from 11 to 15 March 2024, as part of a wider visit to the Scandinavian peninsula on the subject.
During his visit, the UN expert will assess the transitional justice measures adopted by authorities in Finland to address the legacy of human rights violations endured by indigenous peoples, such as the Sámi people, in the context of assimilation and related policies.
The expert will meet with state officials, indigenous peoples’ communities, civil society organisations and academic institutions. He will visit Helsinki and Inari.
