Unique opportunity to broadcast from Bondi Pavilion

Waverley Council

Waverley Council is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from community radio stations to broadcast from the iconic Bondi Pavilion, set to reopen mid-year.

A community radio studio has been established in the Pavilion and will be operated by Council as a shared facility through a licensing agreement.

Mayor of Waverley, Paula Masselos, said the core purpose of the partnership is to activate the radio studio through the creation and broadcast of localised content and community engagement initiatives.

“Bondi Pavilion has been a part of our cultural identity for more than 90 years and will now have a presence on the airwaves too” Mayor Masselos said.

Scheduled to open in late June 2022, the radio studio comprises a professional standard broadcast and producer facility with shared access to two music studios. The studios have network connectivity to the theatre and broadcast radio station for audio recording and AV streaming between the rooms.

“It is anticipated that the community radio partner will have an existing audience and offer programming to engage with a diverse range of listeners and interests, including locals and visitors,” the Mayor said.

The studio environment is designed for flexible production of live-to-air programming, accommodating different users at one time.

The EOI is open until Monday 28 February at haveyoursay.waverley.nsw.gov.au/eoibondipavradio.

The Council’s restoration and conservation works are due for completion mid-year. The restoration includes:

  • An updated art gallery
  • flexible cultural spaces including the new ‘Bondi Story Room’
  • two dining venues (a restaurant and a café)
  • larger Pottery Studio including a second kiln
  • new toilets, showers and a family and accessible bathroom and change space
  • expansive refurbishments and upgrade to all the Pavilion’s unique existing rooms
  • landscaped internal courtyard spaces
  • new grand entrance to the north and creating additional east-west connections through the Pavilion
  • better connection from Campbell Parade to the beachfront
