Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is launching the new Online Professional Diploma in Skills for the Future and Employability.
With the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and rapid advances in technology, understanding the skills needed in the current and future job market is increasingly important. The programme responds to the need for inclusive, future-ready capacity-building and supports individuals in navigating uncertainty by developing relevant skills.
The World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 projects that by 2030, 170 million jobs will be created while 92 million will be displaced. The report highlights a shift towards technology-intensive and human-centred competencies, reinforcing the growing need for professionals to reskill and upskill in a changing world of work.
Flexible pathways to build future-ready skills
The programme is delivered entirely online over three months through six live e-workshops. These workshops are also offered individually as micro-credentials, allowing for flexible and personalized learning pathways.
To obtain the Professional Diploma, participants are required to complete all six online workshops – three focused on technical skills and three on human-centred skills. Participants must also attend an introductory e-workshop and complete a final research paper of between 3,000 and 5,000 words.
Combining technical and human-centred skills
Workshops are led by UNITAR experts and practitioners and combine evidence-based learning with practical application. Topics include artificial intelligence, digital literacy, cybersecurity, evidence-based decision-making, strategic foresight, systems thinking, creative thinking, problem-solving and human-centred leadership.
Through this approach, participants can strengthen their ability to adapt, innovate and navigate complex professional environments while developing skills relevant to a changing job market.
The Online Professional Diploma will run from 11 January to 19 April 2027 and will be delivered in English. Participants can register for the full Professional Diploma or for individual micro-credentials.
