Shot in some of the world’s most beautiful bookstores on location in France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, The Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Hungary and Australia, a new feature film by the University of Newcastle’s Dr Stuart McBratney, Don’t Read This on a Plane, will premiere at the Dances with Films festival in Los Angeles on 29 August 2020.
Due to COVID, this year’s festival is being held virtually, allowing people to ‘attend’ from around the world.
The film is a travel-filled drama with a dash of comedy. It’s about a novelist who resorts to hitchhiking and sleeping rough during her European book tour after her publicist goes bankrupt. The story is engaging and unpredictable, daring to address modern relationships, while shedding light on the struggles, pleasures and absurdities of artistic passion.
This is the third feature film by writer/director Dr McBratney. “I hope people enjoy it, and maybe have a few laughs,” he said. “We were really lucky to finish filming a few months before COVID hit, especially since we shot all over Europe. I think people are itching to see the world again, so this might provide a much-needed fix.”
