Central Coast Council is delighted to formally accept the land transfer at 1A Jaques Street Ourimbah from the University of Newcastle.

Council resolved at its 25 July 2023 Ordinary Council meeting to accept the transfer of land, which will now be used for community purposes.

The land on 1A Jaques Street is a rectangular block about 1050 square metres in size. The site has been owned by The University of Newcastle since 1994, having been used for teaching for over a decade.

Council Administrator Rik Hart said he is very pleased to accept the transfer on behalf of Council and looks forward to future discussions with the Ourimbah community as to the future use of the site.

“We know there has been strong anticipation in the community about the future of the site, and so this announcement is an excellent outcome.”

Mr Hart added that the public amenities on the site, which Council returned to operational use earlier this year, will also now continue to be open and maintained by Council.

University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky AO has welcomed the announcement of the land transfer to Central Coast Council.

“Our University has had a long-established partnership with the Ourimbah community for more than 30 years through our Ourimbah campus.

“We understand the importance placed on this site by residents, so I’m pleased to have worked with Central Coast Council and residents to help return the Jaques Street site back to the community,” Professor Zelinsky said.
