Unlicensed learner clocked 100km/h over at Lake Illawarra, NSW

A learner driver with a cancelled licence has been charged after allegedly being clocked travelling 100km/h over the speed limit in the Illawarra.

About 10.45am yesterday (Wednesday 8 April 2020), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command observed a black Ford Falcon allegedly performing a ‘fishtail’ manoeuvre at a roundabout at the intersection of Thirroul Road and Kanahooka Road at Kanahooka.

The driver allegedly sped away from the roundabout and was detected travelling 160km/h in the posted 60km/h zone.

Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver – a 20-year-old man – before taking him to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

Checks on the driver revealed his learner’s license had been cancelled.

The man was issued traffic infringement notices for speeding and burnout offences, and he was charged with drive whilst cancelled.

He is due to face Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 16 June 2020.
