The search for a man reported missing from a remote community north of Alice Springs continues with ongoing ground and air searches of the area today.
Harold Morton, 44 was last seen at a family home in the Aboriginal community of Ampilatwatja at 6am Friday. Community members conducted a search of the community and surrounding area and reported him as missing to police just after 7pm.
A search of the surrounding area by family located footprints, believed to be Harold’s 4.5km out of the community heading north.
Extensive land and air searches of the community and surrounding area have been conducted by police throughout the weekend.
Acting Superintendent Michael Potts said regardless of Mr Morton’s experience as a bushman, police held concerns for his welfare.
“We take any instance in which someone has walked off into the outback as a serious matter,” said A/Superintendent Potts.
“Family have advised us that Harold is an experienced bushman and knows the area very well, however it would reassure us and his family if we found him.
“We don’t know what resources has might have on him or have access to, and with the current hot weather conditions it is of a concern that he is still missing.”
“We are going into day four of searching for Harold using a helicopter and land searches and community members have assisted us during this time.”
Search efforts continue in the area for Harold, who is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 175cm tall with a slim build and a greying beard.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue and green polo shirt and runners.
