Update – Absconder – Southern region

A man who absconded from a quarantine facility in Alice Springs earlier this month, has been arrested by Northern Territory Police.

Northern Territory Police conducted an extensive search for the 27-yer-old man utilising resources from the Alice Springs Criminal Investigations Branch, Darwin Crime Division and the Organised Crime, Intelligence & Capability Commands after he absconded the facility on Friday 3 December.

Members of the Tennant Creek CIB and general duties apprehended the man on the Barkley Highway near the Three Ways Roadhouse around 11am today.

The offender was taken to the Tennant Creek Watch House where it is expected he will be charged with the following;

  • Breach Direction of Chief Health Officer.
  • Supply Schedule one Dangerous Drug, Less than Commercial Quantity
  • Possess Trafficable Amount of Schedule One Dangerous Drug
  • Unlawful use of Motor Vehicle.
  • Drive an unregistered Motor Vehicle.
  • Drive an uninsured Motor Vehicle.
  • Drive a motor vehicle with a Suspended Licence.

Police will strongly oppose bail.
