Update on COVID-19 restrictions and testing in Moreland

23 June 2020

Several setbacks in containing the spread of coronavirus in Victoria has led the State Government making some changes to restrictions and public health advice.

Unfortunately, active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria have risen.

Moreland has been identified as a hotspot along with five other local government areas (LGAs).

As at the 22 June, we have 6 active cases in Moreland. The advice is that there may be a higher risk of community transmission in these LGAs .

The important information on restrictions is:

  • The State Government has not imposed any additional restrictions on Moreland.
  • Schools and businesses remain open.
  • Moreland residents are advised against traveling interstate or regionally if possible.
  • Visitors to homes have been reduced to a maximum of five people.
  • Outdoor gatherings have been reduced to a maximum of ten people.

Everyone is being encouraged to continue to follow public health advice to stay safe:

  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Keep your distance from others
  • Stay home if you feel unwell
  • Work from home if you can

Anyone in Moreland with symptoms, however mild, should get tested. Symptoms can include a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose or loss of smell or taste. You should also get tested if you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

  • Testing is free for everyone
  • You should stay home while you wait for the results to come back.
  • If you test positive and must stay home, the State Government are offering one-off payments of $1500 to compensate any loss of income.
  • Your local GP or the Department of Health and Human Services website can help you find a local testing facility in Moreland.

We thank all residents and businesses who have worked hard to comply with public health requirements. We’ll continue to keep you updated and working to support our community.
