Updates from Australian Retailers Association

South Australian government a step closer to modernising trading hours

The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) welcomes the South Australian Government’s introduction of legislation to extend trading hours on Sundays, which will deliver benefits for retailers and consumers across the state.

The proposed legislation will enact amendments that permit shops in Adelaide to open from 9am on Sundays, creating two extra hours for retailers to trade and for consumers to shop. It will also confirm Boxing Day trading hours for store across metropolitan Adelaide, which will be allowed to open from 9am to 5pm.

Clarification needed on trading conditions for September 22 public holiday

The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) said it respects the decision of the Federal Government to honour the passing of Queen Elizabeth II with a one-off public holiday and that it’s now up to the states and territories to clarify trading conditions for Thursday September 22.

“Many in our community, including retailers and their staff, will want to honour and mourn the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. We are confident retailers will abide respectfully by the government’s decision and in sympathy to the sensitivities of many of their customers,” said ARA CEO Paul Zahra.
