Australia’s strategy for international education will be updated next year to ensure continued growth in the sector that contributed $37.6 billion to the Australian economy in 2018.
The Council for International Education today agreed to refresh the National Strategy for International Education 2025 next year.
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said the refresh would determine the council’s priorities for the next five years.
“Australians should be proud of our international education sector which is supporting job and business opportunities and contributing to our economic growth,” Mr Tehan said.
“Refreshing our national strategy shows we are not complacent about the success of the sector.
“We are taking action to ensure Australia remains a destination of choice for international students that delivers a high-quality education.
“The council will work with the sector to understand issues in the changing operating environment and to identify opportunities to support long-term, sustainable growth.
“I also welcome to the council, new members: Linda Kristjanson AO, Helen Bartlett, Michael Wesley, Malcolm Baigent, Janelle Chapman and Ahmed Ademoglu.
“I also thank former members Kent Anderson, Brett Blacker, Tracey Horton, Gerald Lipman, David Riordan and Bijay Sapkota for their significant contribution.”
