Upgraded reserve coming to Diggers Rest

Diggers Rest residents can look forward to an attractive, new look space to get active and enjoy the outdoors with works officially starting on upgrades to Stan Payne Reserve today.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli and Member for Sunbury Josh Bull MP, (representing Minister for Local Government the Hon Adem Somyurek MP) marked the project’s beginning by turning the first sod at an event this afternoon.

The improvements will include upgrades to the existing shelter, toilet block, picnic tables, drinking fountain and bowls club carpark, as well as new bluestone paths, expansive grass areas, tree plantings, garden beds and irrigation.

Cr Lara Carli said the works would create better pedestrian connections across the site and define more open space for outdoor activities.

“Upgrading this historically significant reserve will provide a wonderful space for the Diggers Rest community to enjoy,” she said.

“Once complete, it will improve social connection, promote activity and create an inviting gateway to the Diggers Rest township.”

The project is funded with $400,000 from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, matched by $400,000 from Council.

“We are very grateful to the State Government for making this upgrade possible with their generous contribution,” Cr Carli said.

Works are expected to be complete by mid-2020.
