Urgent support for Tasmanians in need

Roger Jaensch,Minister for Housing

Today’s meeting was positive, constructive and action focussed.

We reached broad agreement to focus on boosting the capacity of existing providers to cater for growing demand.

By supporting existing services, we can ensure those people in crisis have the support, security and expertise to help them on a pathway to longer-term housing.

In coming days, we will be finalising our work plan to ensure increased services are provided as soon as possible, including an immediate increase in funding that will see more people in emergency accommodation sooner.

With the support of the sector, and across politics, we can better support those who need it. This response is in addition to our $125 million investment into Stage Two of our Affordable Housing Strategy, taking our total investment to almost $200 million over eight years – the largest ever investment into affordable housing in Tasmania’s history.
