This paper provides an overview of the disability information collected in the 2023 Household Disability Survey and the 2023 Census.
It explains when to use each data source and gives guidance and best practice information for data users. It also includes examples of how the two data sources can be used together to draw insights about Aotearoa New Zealand’s disabled population.
We understand the value and importance of the disability data in the 20 May 2025 release and wanted to provide it promptly for our customers .
Unfortunately, accessible translations of this associated report are not yet available but will be released on this webpage soon. Translations will include Braille, New Zealand Sign Language, Easy Read, large print, and audio file format.
