Vehicle stop leads to disqualified driver facing drug and weapon charges at Wollongong, NSW

A man will face court on driving, drug and weapons offences following his arrest in the Illawarra area.

About 10pm (Thursday 5 March 2020) officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were conducting patrols within the suburb of Koonawarra when they stopped a vehicle on Balarang Place.

Police spoke with the 28-year-old male driver, with checks revealing he is disqualified.

During a subsequent search of the man’s vehicle, police seized cocaine, methylamphetamine (ice), cash, two knives and an imitation pistol.

The Berkeley man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with drive whilst disqualified, drug supply and custody of a knife in a public place.

The imitation pistol will be subject to forensic examination.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday 22 March 2020.
