Vibrant outdoor space for Melbourne’s growing eastern suburbs

A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will transform Nunawading’s Junction Road Parkland into a vibrant outdoor recreational area to be enjoyed by local families.

The Liberals and Nationals will work with locals to create a Master Plan, which will put the foundations in place to deliver new infrastructure and amenities at the parkland.

The open space could include a dog park, a fitness trail with lighting and outdoor exercise equipment and cycling paths to create a hub for local outdoor activity.

Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy said it was important to look at ways to improve suburban parklands.

“The community has identified the need for Junction Road Parkland to be revitalised, and a Government I lead will deliver a space for all to enjoy,” he said.

“Green open spaces and parklands are an important part of our urban infrastructure which not only provide the opportunity to exercise, but also a place to have a positive impact on our mental health.”

Further infrastructure options could include cycle paths, a BBQ area, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a children’s bike and traffic training area.

Shadow Minister for Planning, Ryan Smith encouraged residents to put forward their ideas for the area.

“There will be a range of opportunities for the local community to put forward suggestions for the Master Plan,” he said.

“A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will work closely with all involved to ensure the new facilities best fit the needs of the local community.”

Liberal Candidate for Ringwood, Cynthia Watson said the commitment provided an opportunity to grow our urban forest by planting more trees, improve biodiversity and provide habitat for wildlife.

“The parkland is a large area home to many native animals and plants and it’s important to look at everything we can do to further maintain biodiversity in our local environment.”
