Victorian Government announcement about Swinburne Prahran site

The City of Stonnington welcomes today’s announcement from the Victorian Government about the long term future of the Swinburne University site in Prahran, confirming the area as an education and arts precinct.

The announcement by the Minister for Higher Education and Training and Skills Gayle Tierney outlined the Victorian Government’s plans to purchase the campus and deliver a long-term plan for students and the community.

City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Jami Klisaris, welcomes this news.

“This is an incredibly exciting outcome for Prahran, Stonnington and Victoria’s education and arts communities.

“Securing this site as a long term education and arts hub will provide generational outcomes in Stonnington for residents and students.

“There was some uncertainty in our community about how this site would be used longer term, so we’re delighted about this outcome.

“On behalf of Council, I thank the Victorian Government for this investment in Stonnington and our local members who have helped to advocate for this to happen,” added Cr Klisaris.
