Melbourne, 13/03/24 – An Australian auction-first took place over the weekend.

The first-ever Virtual Reality (VR) auction took place over the weekend. Martin Evans, Auctioneer of leading Victorian clearing sales auction company, M.E. Auctions, donned a VR headset during a live Clearing Sale auction today, selling many high-priced assets online.

This groundbreaking event was orchestrated by Webtron, an Australian auction software company, who have been testing and developing this VR technology for its auction applications.

Alex Hill, Founder and Director at Webtron, commented on the significance of this event for the future of the auction industry: “VR Mixed Reality is where the analog world and digital world become one. Bidders will soon start to see Auctioneers wearing VR headsets as the practice becomes normalised. Some of the benefits for the auctioneer include real-time data, bidding and selling information, without the need for bulky hardware.”

Martin Evans, Founder and Auctioneer at M.E. Auctions, also expressed enthusiasm for this auction breakthrough: “This is an amazing tool for Auctioneers. This is the first-time that I had a virtual 360 view of the auction selling process.”

Webtron will be showcasing this exciting new technology at the Future Vision Expo in Melbourne on Wednesday March 20th, 2024. Availability is limited, booking essential at www.webtrononlineauction.com/future-auction-expo
