Wanted man charged with outstanding warrants – Criminal Groups Squad

A man has been charged over several outstanding arrest warrants for serious firearm-related offences in Sydney.

Detectives attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command executed a search warrant at a unit on Bundock Street, South Coogee, shortly before 9am yesterday (Tuesday 5 September 2023), in relation to an unrelated investigation.

Upon arrival, police observed a man jump from a window of the unit and over a nearby fence. Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit, however the man could not be located.

Detectives continued the search warrant, while other officers – including Traffic and Highway Patrol officers – searched for the outstanding man.

Upon completion of the search warrant, the same man arrived at the unit before he saw police and fled on foot.

Following a short foot pursuit, a 33-year-old man was arrested near Gumara Street about 2pm, where it was established he was wanted by virtue of four outstanding arrest warrants for serious firearm-related offences and a drug-related offence.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station, before he was taken to a hospital under police guard for treatment to a foot injury.

He was later released and returned back to Maroubra Police Station where the four outstanding warrants was executed.

The man was also charged with five offences including acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, carry firearm manner likely injure person/property, acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order, hinder/resist police officer in the execution of duty, and enter included land not prescribed without lawful excuse.

He was refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Wednesday 6 September 2023).
