Police are urging bushwalkers to reconsider travel plans as NSW experiences heavy rainfall and flooding after a man and woman were rescued in the Blue Mountains yesterday.
About 4.50pm (Tuesday 1 March 2022), emergency services were called to Wentworth Falls, in the Blue Mountains National Park, after a 55-year-old man and 33-year-old woman needed to be rescued due to rising water on their walking track.
Police were told the pair commenced a walk on a track that was closed due to the poor weather conditions.
Officers attached to Blue Mountains Police Area Command, with assistance from Police Rescue and NSW Ambulance paramedics, used ropes and harnesses to access the pair and pull them up to safety over the rising water just before 8.30pm.
There were no reports of injuries.
In light of this incident, and current weather warnings, police urge members of the public to avoid bush walking until the current wet weather eases, and if you do proceed, ensure you are well prepared for the conditions. Remember:
– Pack adequate supplies of food and water, as well as navigation and first aid equipment.
– Register your planned route and aim to stick to that
– Follow the map and walking trails and do not ignore warning signs and barriers
– Tell friends and family when you expect to return
– Carry an emergency beacon
