Brisbane City Tactical Crime Squad (TCS) have charged a man for possession of a weapon during proactive patrols of inner Brisbane’s Safe Night Precincts (SNP).
Shortly after 3am on 11 July, a patrolling TCS officer sighted a man with a knife handle tucked into his clothing as he moved to adjust his hoodie on Ann Street.
Officers quickly arrested the man and seized a large kitchen knife, alleged to have been in the man’s possession.
The 20-year-old Inala man was subsequently charged with one count of possession of a knife in a public place.
He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on 28 August.
North Brisbane District Acting Superintendent Matthew Blunn says local police conduct frequent proactive patrols of Brisbane SNPs to detect and deter any offending.
“There is no excuse to bring a weapon into a public space, anyone found to do so can anticipate swift action from police and to have their day in court.”
“Any crime in our SNPs will not be tolerated, and local police will continue to maintain a strong enforcement presence to keep our community safe.”
