Weapons and drugs seized; two charged as part of investigations into armed affray, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged and a fifth teenager arrested following investigations into an alleged armed affray at a train station in Sydney’s west.

Just before 5pm on Friday 12 June 2020, a male, allegedly armed with a machete, threatened commuters at Rooty Hill Railway Station before he was confronted by four males, who were armed with knives and a hammer.

Officers from Police Transport Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, four boys – one aged 16 and three aged 17 – were arrested and charged over their alleged roles in the incident. All four teenagers remain before the courts.

Just before 8am yesterday (Thursday 9 July 2020), investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Ropes Crossing, where they located knives, machetes, cash, and prohibited drugs.

These items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

A 16-year-old boy and a 42-year-old man were both arrested at the property and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.

The teenager was charged with two counts of affray, two counts of armed with intent to commit indictable offence, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm and supply prohibited drug.

The boy was refused bail and appeared at a children’s court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to next appear before a children’s court on Wednesday 19 August 2020.

The man was charged with 14 offences, including:

  • two counts of supply prohibited drug,
  • possess a prohibited weapon,
  • handle explosive/precursor without authorising licence,
  • six counts of possess prohibited drug,
  • three counts of possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance, and
  • goods suspected of being stolen.

He was refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court today (Friday 10 July 2020).

Investigations into the alleged affray at Rooty Hill are continuing and further arrests are expected.
