Weapons & dangerous driving charges in Beenleigh, QLD

Police have charged a man after a police car was damaged in Beenleigh this afternoon.

At around 12:45pm police observed a vehicle which had been reported stolen from Bellbird Park on January 6 parked on Solar Street in Beenleigh.

Police will allege officers then saw a man enter the parked car.

It will be further alleged when officers directed the man to exit the vehicle he drove the vehicle towards officers, hitting their car, before colliding with a rock wall.

The man then allegedly fled the scene on foot, armed with a handgun.

He allegedly discarded the handgun before being taken into custody by officers in bushland near Spanns Road.

No officers were physically injured during the incident.

A 23-year-old Northgate man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun), unlawful use of a motor vehicle, serious assault, wilful damage of police property, possessing dangerous drugs, obstruct police and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.

He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 11.
