Wear Orange Wednesday – WOW Day

Today is Wear Orange Wednesday Day (WOW Day).

It is a day of recognition and appreciation when the dedicated work of State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers is celebrated across Australia.

The focus of WOW Day is to encourage the community to show their support in a very simple but highly visible gesture by wearing the colour orange. This is the colour worn by SES volunteers.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service (NTES) comprises of volunteers and staff who provide a response capability across the Territory.

There are just over 300 registered NTES volunteers in the Territory operating from 21 active volunteer units.

Commissioner and CEO Jamie Chalker said “Wear Orange Wednesday” is a day of recognition and appreciation for the work, time and commitment provided by our volunteers.

“Life in the Territory has many challenges. From cyclones to floods and missing people. Our vast distances and harsh conditions place big demands on our Emergency Services. Without our loyal and passionate volunteers our ability to support the community would be drastically reduced.”

“Our volunteers help the community in its time of need. The dedication of our volunteers means they have qualifications from flood boats to chainsaws and search and rescue. They do this on top of day jobs and looking after their own families.

“Northern Territory Police Fire and Emergency Services is enormously proud of our volunteers and we thank them for all they do.”

NTPFES encourages the community to take a selfie – share it on social media using HASHTAGS! #THANKYOUSES #WOWDAY.
