Weekend bookings provide pre-Christmas boost to driving test availability

  • Additional Practical Driving Assessments available on weekends
  • Joondalup and Kelmscott Driver and Vehicle Services Centres to operate seven days a week in coming weeks
  • More than 1,000 additional driving tests to improve availability across metropolitan area
  • The Department of Transport (DoT) today released the first of more than 1,000 additional Practical Driving Assessments (PDAs) available on Saturdays and Sundays in the lead up to Christmas.

The additional PDAs will be conducted at DoT’s Joondalup and Kelmscott Driver and Vehicle Services Centres to accommodate candidates both north and south of the river.

The boost will see approximately 80,000 PDAs conducted across the metropolitan area before the end of the year.

The weekend bookings, available from 8am-2.45pm, will be released each week for at least the next six weeks, with the staggered approach aimed at ensuring there are always short-term and longer-term appointments available for candidates.

Candidates keen to secure a PDA are encouraged to continue to check the real-time PDA online booking system regularly over the coming weeks as the additional PDAs become available.

PDAs can be booked or cancelled 24/7 using the online booking system.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Current demand for driving tests is very strong so I am pleased to make more than 1,000 additional tests available before Christmas.

“Getting a driver’s licence is not only an exciting rite of passage, it’s an important step in gaining many training and employment opportunities. We encourage candidates to be well prepared and experienced before attempting a PDA to give them the best opportunity to be successful the first time.

“The State Government is committed to responding to changes in demand for driving tests to meet the needs of the community, and offering them seven days a week as required is an example of that commitment.

“I wish all the learner drivers preparing for their PDA the best of luck and hope their P plates come as an early Christmas present.”
