Flashing chrome and paint jobs, the smell of leather upholstery and the rumble of motors will transform the Camperdown town centre this weekend.
The Princes Highway and Little Manifold Street will be closed between Brooke Street and Cressy Street on Saturday 11 January 2020 from 7 am – 6 pm, for the Camperdown Car and Bike Show. A detour and reduced speed limits will be in place throughout the town and for Old Geelong Road and Princes Highway.
Corangamite Shire Mayor Neil Trotter asked motorists to observe signage and drive safely in the changed conditions.
“I’d like to invite everyone across the region to come down and enjoy this great family-friendly event,” Cr Trotter said. “Many of the vehicles on display are true works of art as well as engineering.
“The show is one of 14 events Council has supported through our Events and Festivals Grants program. This type of event adds to the vibrant lifestyle of our Shire and attracts visitors who contribute to the local economy by food, fuel and accommodation while they’re here.”
Organiser Andrew Searle said more categories had been introduced including trucks and, to encourage younger enthusiasts, lowrider bicycles and karts with 90cc engines.
“This year, for the first time, we have introduced pre-entries to allow entrants to pre-enter before the weekend. We’ve ended up with 30 vehicles booking in,” Mr Searle said.
“With the way the phone is ringing I expect we’ll get more than last year. We’ve had an increased amount of calls this year that we are expecting over 500 vehicles attending Saturday’s Show ‘n’ Shine.
“At the moment we’ve got about 30 stallholders coming, which is up on last year. The stall holders will be car-related only. That will not include any additional commercial cooking traders to allow the local traders to have a successful day.
“We’re really happy to work with the Shire and local businesses. They’ve been fantastic for us and we’re grateful for their support. This is potentially turning into a large show which will benefit the community and businesses.”
The show will begin at 4 pm on Friday with a meet and greet for entrants at the Hampden Hotel.
On Saturday, the Show ‘n’ Shine will be held from 9 am – 3 pm with trade stalls and live music all day. Then from 7 pm – 10 pm entrants will take their vehicles on a Night Cruise around Little Manifold Street. Things will wrap up at 11 am on Sunday, when the vehicles leave on a cruise from the Clocktower to Panmure.
Admission is $5 per person or $10 for a family, with money raised going to local charities.
