We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Sandra Eades, Dean of Curtin University Medical School, to the Burnet board.
A Noongar woman from Mount Barker in Western Australia, Professor Eades is a pioneer. She has made a significant contribution to Aboriginal health and Indigenous research over more than two decades.
She worked as a GP after graduating in 1990, and in 2003 became the first Aboriginal medical doctor to be awarded a PhD, where she studied the causal pathways and determinants of health among Indigenous infants.
Prior to her appointment at Curtin University in March 2020, Professor Eades was Associate Dean (Indigenous) and Professor at the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of Melbourne.
At Burnet, we want to substantially grow our public health research impact, including for Indigenous Australians, working together with our partners throughout this country and beyond.
Being able to draw on Professor Eades’ wide-ranging experience and expertise as a board member will help us serve our mission, especially to help translate the institute’s research into real and impactful solutions.
We note that Sandra’s appointment means that we have 50/50 gender balance for Burnet’s non-executive board members.
