Well-deserved recognition for Teddy Sheean

Tasmanian Labor

Tasmanian Labor has welcomed the long-overdue recognition for Teddy Sheean that will come when he is posthumously awarded with a Victoria Cross today.

Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs Jo Siejka said today’s ceremony at Government House will be a great occasion, not only for those who campaigned for the award, but all Tasmanians.

“I am so proud that Teddy Sheean’s courage and sacrifice will finally be acknowledged with such a prestigious honour,” Ms Siejka said.

“There have been a lot of people working towards this moment, and I would like to thank them for their efforts in helping Teddy get the recognition he so thoroughly deserves.

“I would like to specifically acknowledge Teddy’s nephew, Garry Ivory, for the work he’s done to see Teddy honoured in this way.

“Teddy is a hero to all Tasmanians and his actions will now forever be recognised with Australia’s highest military honour.”
