Ken Robinson - Blue Haven volunteer

Kiama Council has paid tribute to Blue Haven volunteer Ken Robinson who is handing in the keys to the community bus after 25 years behind the wheel.

Ken started as a volunteer driver in September 1996 with two regular clients, a lady from Blue Haven and a lady from Bombo.

After a while he became a bus helper on the Tuesday Friendship Group while the regular volunteer bus helper was on holidays.

Ken then became a regular bus helper for day groups, including Monday Jamberoo, Tuesday Friendship, Wednesday Meehan Drive, Thursday Gerroa and Friday Uniting Church groups.

He also spent Saturdays helping with shopping runs.

Ken later became volunteer driver for Kiama Community Transport and was a driver for the Wollongong Health run.

He has also been the driver for social bus trips, men’s groups, exercise groups, shopping runs and bowling groups.

We wish Ken all the best for his ‘retirement’.

Becoming a Blue Haven volunteer is an amazing way to enrich the lives of others and give back to the community.

It also allows you to meet new people and make new friends, use your skills in a positive way, gain confidence in a variety of roles and raise awareness and support in the community and receive ongoing support and invites to regular events.
