Well done Tassie – 80 per cent of Tasmanians 16 and over fully vaccinated

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

Tasmania has passed a significant milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination roll out, with 80 per cent of those aged 16 years and above now fully vaccinated.

This is an important step on our path to safely reconnect Tasmania when borders open on December 15.

The Tasmanian Government has continually prioritised the health and safety of Tasmanians throughout the pandemic.

Vaccination is not only the best way to protect yourself, your loved ones and the community against COVID-19, it is also one of the best ways to ensure our hospitals do not become overwhelmed.

In the recent NSW outbreak, 95 per cent of people hospitalised with COVID-19 were not fully vaccinated.

While this is a fantastic milestone and Tasmania is making great progress, it is important we keep up the momentum.

Time is running out for people to protect themselves and their families before the borders reopen on December 15.

Nearly 91 per cent of Tasmanians have now had a first dose but there are still 40,000 people aged 16+ and close to 10,000 aged 12-15 that are yet to be vaccinated.

For those Tasmanians who have not yet made an appointment for their first dose, I urge you to not wait any longer.

Everyone aged 12 and over can get the jab at a GP, pharmacy, state-run clinic, or onboard our vaccination buses that are visiting rural areas of the State.
