Rugby league and union players, officials and spectators in Wellington have had a big win in the form of a new fencing and seating upgrades at Kennard Park.
Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee said the improvements would be a game changer for players and fans of the codes in Wellington.
“New fencing around the field will improve safety for both players and spectators, putting the ball back in their court,” Mr Gee said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said an additional 60 grandstand seats would make the park a better venue for spectators and attract more competitive matches.
“The new security fencing around the perimeter will also help local clubs collect entry fees from patrons by reducing the number of unofficial entry points, giving back to our local sports clubs,” Mr McCormack said.
Mayor of the Dubbo Region Ben Shields said the safer facilities would better cater to the numerous clubs and schools that train and play at the park throughout the year.
“Thanks to the Australian Government’s generous contribution, we look forward to our local rugby players making use of the new and improved Kennard Park,” Cr Shields said.
The project was jointly funded with the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government providing $200,000, Dubbo Regional Council $12,408 and the Wellington Rugby League Club and Wellington Rugby Union Club $14,000.
