Five members of Bittern Fire Brigade will roll up their sleeves for the 2024 Emergency Services Blood Drive.
Bittern Brigade’s Community Safety Officer Ally Smith said she has donated plasma six times now.
“I originally started to donate blood but then I found out that my plasma is universal,” Ally said.
“It can be used by anyone so I figured there’s no excuse not to donate it.
“Our Blood Drive team is the Western Port Group and so far we have 11 members.
“One of our team members has just given his 107th donation which is pretty special.”
The Brigades that are part of the Western Port Group include Bittern, Balnarring, Hastings, Langwarrin and Sommerville.
Ally is eager to recruit new team members and said “anyone can register their donation under our group. You don’t have to be a CFA member.”
The Blood Drive, held annually by Australian Red Cross Lifeblood from 1 June to 31 August, calls on emergency service workers to compete in a bit of healthy competition by providing the highest number of blood and plasma donations.
