What’s in a Name? Community Invited to Name Albion Park Laneway

Shellharbour City Council is inviting the community to play a role in shaping local identity, with residents encouraged to help name a currently unnamed laneway off Russell Street in Albion Park.

While small in scale, the project plays an important role in supporting future growth and improving everyday navigation.

Providing an official name will assist with addressing, make it easier for visitors and deliveries to find their way, and support emergency services in locating properties quickly and safely.

Mayor Chris Homer said the initiative was a chance for the community to leave a lasting mark on their neighbourhood.

“This is a great opportunity for residents to be part of a meaningful local project,” Mayor Homer said.

“We know people have a strong connection to Albion Park, and we’re looking forward to seeing name suggestions that reflect the area’s history, character and community spirit.”

Council is encouraging submissions that align with NSW and Council naming requirements, including names that are unique within the region, easy to pronounce and spell, and reflective of local identity, history or environment.

Suggestions must also meet Australian Standards and the NSW Address Policy and User Manual. If Aboriginal names are proposed, they must be from the Dharawal language and will require endorsement from Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee.

Following the consultation period, all compliant name suggestions will be shortlisted and presented for community voting, before a final decision is made by Council.

Residents can submit their ideas, view background information and support other suggestions via Council’s Let’s Chat platform.

Consultation closes Sunday, 27 July 2026.
