Tasmanian’s can’t believe anything Will Hodgman says after he twice mislead Parliament over funding for Ambulance Tasmania.
Last week, Will Hodgman falsely told Parliament:
“Our resources have increased by $200 million more than in the 2013-14 Budget, that is an 87 per cent increase in just five years on funding into our ambulance services.”
Will Hodgman quoted the same figures in Question Time today and Sarah Courtney read from the same script last month.
Shadow Health Minister, Sarah Lovell, said Will Hodgman needed to set the record straight.
“The Government’s own budget paper shows the figures Will Hodgman is quoting are way off the mark,” Ms Lovell said.
“Funding for ambulance services was $62 million in the 2013-14 Budget, and is $81 million in the 2019-20 Budget – that is an increase of $19 million, not $200 million, over a five year period.
“Either Will Hodgman is deliberately trying to mislead Parliament and Tasmanians or he has no clue how to read a budget – halftime Hodgman strikes again.
“Tasmanians can’t trust Will Hodgman and they aren’t falling for his spin.
“He is blatantly misleading Tasmanians by spruiking figures that don’t exist while at the same time insisting frontline services won’t be cut when we know this is already happening.
“Will Hodgman has an obligation under Parliament standing orders to correct the record, and yet refused to do this in Parliament today. Labor is calling on him to do this at the earliest possible opportunity.”
