Wingham’s Riverside Reserve is about to undergo a major upgrade.
Improvements will include landscaping and earthworks, a formalised car parking space, refurbished amenities and new picnic tables.
There will also be flood mitigation works and damage following the 2021 floods will be repaired.
The project is expected to kick off this Monday 30 May and will take around eight weeks, weather permitting. The reserve will be closed during this time.
“We are delighted to get these long-awaited works underway,” said Daniel Aldridge, Council’s Executive Manager Community Spaces and Liveable Communities.
The project has been delayed due to flood damage, which changed the scope of the works, and the flying-fox breeding season.
“The Reserve is a well-used spot for recreation and an important part of the local ecosystem. Soon it will be able to be fully enjoyed again by the communities which love it and the many native flora and fauna that call it their home,” said Mr Aldridge.
The project is funded thanks to $102,880 from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund. In addition, a further $100,000 from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has been granted to repair flood-damaged facilities.
Council has also secured a $223,610 grant from Local Government NSW (LGNSW), funded by the NSW Environmental Trust, to restore flying-fox roosting and foraging habitat over coming years, including the endangered lowland rainforest.
