WINTER is set to once again take centre stage on the Tasmanian tourism calendar with the return of a full two weeks of the Dark Mofo festival in June.

The City of Hobart has committed over $300,000 in support to this year’s Dark Mofo festival, made up of a $150,000 sponsorship and additional in-kind support for equipment to assist the festival organisers in hosting the Winter Feast, as well as fee waivers for venue hire.

After a condensed festival in 2021, and cancellation due to COVID in 2020, Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said that the city was excited to welcome back a full program of events to bring the Tasmanian winter back to life.

“It’s apt that the theme for this year is resurrection,” Lord Mayor Reynolds said. “With tourism continuing to bounce back from the challenges of the last two years, we really see Dark Mofo as another great reason for visitors to come back to our city this winter.”

One of the most recognised festivals on the Tasmanian calendar, Dark Mofo provides international recognition for the city, and attracts visitors from around the world. It is expected that with travel opportunities reopened for both interstate and international travellers, that the 2022 festival will be a compelling motivator for people to visit Hobart.

“Dark Mofo has a proven track record in attracting visitors to our city and luring locals out and about during the winter period,” Lord Mayor Reynolds said.

“We’re really excited to see Dark Mofo coming back in full strength,” Lord Mayor Reynolds said. “And pleased to be a part of this exciting event on the Hobart and Tasmania calendar.

The City of Hobart has been a strong supporter of Dark Mofo since 2013, providing cash and in-kind support, with the festival providing significant value to the City of Hobart.

The Winter Feast is a key event on the festival calendar, and is a showcase of Tasmanian small businesses, local produce, street food, seafood, wines, and Tasmania’s renowned distilling industry.

With the theme of Resurrection, Dark Mofo 2022 will run from Wednesday 8 June to Wednesday 22 June 2022.
