Wishy-washy White exposed on stadium

Nic Street, Minister for Stadia and Events

Memo to Ms White: If you try to stand for everything, you end up standing for nothing.

Labor’s wishy-washy Rebecca White has been exposed for trying to have it every which way on Tasmania’s AFL Team agreement.

In an interview with the Sunday Examiner yesterday, Ms White refused to reveal whether an elected Labor Government would cancel the stadium and tear up Tasmania’s AFL team agreement.

Questioned directly by the editor of the Examiner about whether Labor would support the stadium in Parliament, Ms White again refused to say.

Pressed further about Labor’s position on the stadium and the AFL deal, Ms White sought to obfuscate and deflect, variously saying that “it depends” when the election is, “maybe there’s some scope” if the election is earlier than May 2025, and ending with “it’s difficult for me to know what a future Labor Government will inherit.”

What utter hogwash.

The Tasmanian Government is party to an agreement for a Tasmanian team to enter the AFL in 2028. As part of that agreement, the Government has committed to build a new stadium at Macquarie Point.

That agreement is what Labor will inherit should they form Government after the next election, irrespective of whether the election is in May 2025, or earlier as a result of another deal between Labor and the Greens.

So the question is simple, Ms White:

Will you seek to cancel that agreement if you are elected?

Yes, or no?
