Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision between a car and tram in Essendon this evening.
It is understood a car travelling west along Keilor Road collided with a tram travelling in the opposite direction about 10pm.
The sole occupant and driver of the car was trapped before being extricated and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the tram was taken to hospital for observation.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
