Wodonga TAFE Fashion students winners in Natural Fibre Fashion Awards 2022

Wodonga TAFE Fashion Design students were clear winners in the student category of the 2022 Natural Fibre Fashion Awards at this year’s Henty Machinery Field Days, with the winner and three finalists all studying with Wodonga TAFE.

The winning student, Angela Saunders, from the Wangaratta area, is completing Certificate III in Clothing and Textile Production, and submitted a 20th century-inspired design based on the theme of what women of that era wanted. Angela’s winning entry was a bespoke design with a modern edge featuring aspects of oriental flavour whilst being versatile and practical. The three outfit pieces are made from 100% cotton for comfort and ease, and meet the natural fibre requirements of the Awards.

All selected finalists in the student category are current Wodonga TAFE students; two are completing the Certificate III in Clothing and Textile Production, and two are completing the Certificate IV in Clothing Production. The students continued Wodonga TAFE’s winning streak from previous years, with Student Award winners over the last five years of the competition all being selected from Wodonga TAFE’s student entries.

Fashion Design Teacher at Wodonga TAFE, Deidre Brown, is very proud of her students, and said, “They’ve completed items for their collections to a very high standard and have worked hard to include intricate details within a range of well finished garments.”

“The Awards are always very competitive,” said Deidre, “The Natural Fibre Fashion Awards give our students a great challenge to work towards, being creative and designing fashion garments while working with natural fibres, as well as testing their skills on a national playing field.”

Collections created by the students will also be on display at the upcoming FUSE Creative Exhibition, on Thursday 24 November, 5.30pm-9pm, at Wodonga TAFE. Open to the public, FUSE is a showcase of creativity, representing current student work from across the creative industries study areas at Wodonga TAFE.
