Woman charged with murder as critical incident investigation continues – Muswellbrook

A woman will appear at court tomorrow charged with murder following the death of a woman at Muswellbrook last week.

About 7.20am on Monday 30 October 2023, officers from Hunter Valley Police District were called to a unit on Sydney Street, in relation to a concern for welfare.

Officers spoke with a 52-year-old woman, before leaving the property a short time later.

Shortly before 7pm, officers were called to a licensed club also on Sydney Street, after reports of the same woman behaving in an erratic manner.

She was arrested and taken to Muswellbrook Police Station. She was then taken to Muswellbrook Hospital before being taken to the Mater Hospital for assessment.

Then about 8.30pm, emergency services were again called to the same unit on Sydney Street, over concerns for another woman’s welfare.

On arrival, police entered the property and found the body of a 60-year-old woman.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death commenced under Strike Force Llangollen, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Today (Wednesday 8 November 2023), the 52-year-old woman was discharged and escorted to Waratah Police Station where she was charged with murder, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, and destroy or damage property.

She was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 9 November 2023).

A critical incident team from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. That investigation will be subject to an independent review.
