Woman critical after shooting – Pretty Pine, near Deniliquin, NSW

A woman is in critical condition after being shot in the state’s south.

Just after midnight (Saturday 19 January 2019), a 31-year-old woman was on a property on the Cobb Highway, Pretty Pine, north of Deniliquin, with five other persons, when she sustained a gun-shot wound to her head.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to Deniliquin Hospital, before being airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital, in a critical condition.

A 32-year-old man, the woman’s husband, was arrested by police from Murray River Police District, and taken to Deniliquin Police Station, where he is assisting with inquiries.

Four other witnesses, two men and two women, are being spoken to by police.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue, including investigations into whether it was an accidental shooting.

A crime scene has been established which is being examined by specialist police.
